Are We Buyers or Sellers?

Chronicle Live debated in last night's post game whether the Giants can acquire enough in the coming weeks to compete in 2009 or if they should be looking to 2010 and beyond.

They asked two questions.

Can we make the playoffs with the team as currently constructed, and if not, is there enough available and affordable in the open market to add the needed talent?

And

With Sabean and Bochy both in the last year of their deals what direction should the team head with regard to the on field and general management?

Stay the course and look at the overall improvement since the commitment to younger players began?

Hold the current regime accountable for the entire body of work and judge the merit of continuing?

Just clean house and start over with a whole new front office and on field management team which has a unified vision?

What do you guys think?
buyers
on baseball tonight they even said so
I think we should hold steady unless we can buy for cheap. I'm not worried about this year, but I really want to make sure we can make a run next year and years following for a long time.
someone said we got holliday ten said it wasnt true
we getting holliday soon
Buyers, nobody wants what were selling
For the July trading deadline seeing if they can buy cheap would be the best option.

If it doesn't work out and the Giants fall out of contention they can still dump players like Molina, Winn, Uribe and maybe even Bob Howry in August and let the younger players play more for the rest of the season and then reload in the off season.
I'd like to add a legit hitter but don't trust sabean at all. Hope we get a new GM and coach next year
To be determined in the next 2 weeks. I am not sure who we have that other teams are going to want. Molina? Doubt it now. Winn? No. Just not a lot of talent that teams will be thrilled about.

I think the most likely scenario is for the Giants to go get a bat and trade a couple of lesser prospects. I would include guys like Noonan, Gillespie, Neal ( hopefully not!) as players that could go.
We'd have to give up way too much right now to get a real, difference making bat, IMO. I'd much rather see us stand pat and see what happens this year...it's already been one hell of a surprising year, let's let the kids see the rest of it out themselves and see what they can do. If something amazing happens, great!! If not, that's still ok, it was a hellova year either way and whatever happens, we can try for a bat in the offseason and make another go at it next year. I'd hate to give up any of the players or prospects it would take to get someone like Holliday, and then have their contract expire and walk this offseason anyway.
Unless we get Holliday it's not worth giving up our talent. Bring up Posey maybe he can give us some pop.
Buyers but we need to get a win tonight

A new GM and manager would be nice. However, I don't think Sabean is going anywhere anytime soon, unfortunately.
I'd like us to stay put. If we add anyone to the ML roster, its because it is September and the roster goes up to 40.
I say patience. We finish .500 this year, fine.

We're not selling anything.

At this point, Sabean is stupid to sell. They should of traded early.
