Giants acquire Garko

The only hope of ever unloading a player like Zito is by trading him for an undesirable player such as Milton Bradley. Even then the Giants would need to at least eat half the contract for 2012 and 2013 while paying the $7 Million buyout.

Not saying the Cubs would do a trade like this but this is the only type of scenario which would have any type of chance of unloading Zito in order to get some salary relief.
Zito will be in SF for at least 2 or 3 more years I am guessing. After that, the Giants might agree to pay off 90% of his salary just to be rid of him and open up spots for Bumgarner, Alderson, and Wheeler. People need to realize that there is no team in their right minds that will take Barry Zito's contract when there is $83 million left on it after this year.

I agree, the Zito deal will cost us as much or more in terms of a setback as Albert Belle cost the Orioles.

They have yet to recover after 10 full years.
Good trade. 9th best pitching prospect in our farm system for a solid bat that ISN'T a rental. Couldn't go wrong there. We have The Bum, Wheeler and Alderson anyways.
I don't know if I like this yet, since I haven't seen Garko play before. Still though, the numbers look good, so it will be exciting to see the guy play and I hope he helps the team. It's good to see some moves being made by the Giants.

LOL You obviously didnt read all the posts. He was the Giants 3rd rated pitching prospect behind Bumgarner and Alderson. Wheeler was not included when these rankings were done.

When dealing with other teams you have to offer what they need not what you want to purge.

The Indians are pitching starved and hitter (particularly outfield) heavy. They have a better player in Ben Francisco who may have been cut if a Garko wasn't moved before the deadline and are looking to unload last years Cy Young Cliff Lee rather than pay him Ace type big money. They have Jake Westbrook coming back soon and until the roster expands can't tap the players they want to evaluate.

They unloaded Casey Blake and Sabathia last year and Garko this just to get future arms to compete with a guy like Fausto Carmona for the roster. They don't need a project player like Freddy.

They're bullpen is a regressive mess after sporting a great era last year and they dealt one of their stronger member in Rapheal Betancourt to the Rockies rather than pay him either.

The Cleveland area is fairly depressed economically and they just have to cut payroll almost every year they don't look like contenders by this month.

No one will take Zito at his cost and terms, even the Yankees who spend like no tomorrow.

it was a Joke. I was referring to the post i quoted where someone was mad we didn't trade them sadowski instead

I'm sure you are an expert and have seen all their prospects. LMAO. I am going by what the Basebal America guys had as their rankings. The do this for a living so I would think they know just a bit more than someone who hasnt seen all of the pitchers in every class of the minors.

Or in Ponchos case, any of them.

LOL.. Here are 3 reasons:
1) You have no clue what you are talking about
2) You add no value to any conversation with any real knowledge
3) All you do is see how many meaningless posts you can make in a day to be the leading poster
I didn't know Garko looked like Velez. Certainly it wasn't Velez that went 2-3 with a HR. Had to be Garko

While Garko didn't contribute in the box score, he stung the ball and was robbed twice by great plays.

His presence was felt and the order has been lengthend and our versatility improved.

Velez is quietly making progress. I have noticed since his return a change in plate approach.

While before it seemed he would punch and judy balls on the ground and try to use his speed he is less of a slap hitter now.

The HR was driven into the arcade and was no cheapie. If he continues to drive the gaps I want to see more of him either in left or at second.

I think he should be a defensive replacement at either position late in games he doesn't start. His athleticism is far better than a Sanchez and he's young enough to build on these improvements if given the chance. He's also had a history of clutch hits late in games including beating the Dodgers twice!

Imagine if he could hit a consistant .280 and have an OBP. of .370 or so. Maybe even pop ten dingers too. He'd wreak more havoc in the top of our order than Freddie.

Good for the rankings. From what I've heard on KNBR and seen and numerous web sites is that he was considered our 8th best pitching prospect. It was a single A prospect for a known commodity, not to mention Wheeler was a top ten pick so when I talk about pitching prospects I'm going to mention him. You have your opinion I have mine. You really no knothing when it comes to how our oranization ranks players in our farm system nor do I. I just know that Brian told a KNBR member that he wasn't a top 5 pitching prospect, so I going to lean towards his rankings/words. I'm glad you got a kick out of my post though. LOL.
