Monitoring the NL West Race to October

It's going to get interesting, its going to be dramatic, and we'll be on the edge of our seats following every pitch. 1.5 GB as of Monday, August 22. Dbacks are in D.C. after losing their last 2 series in Philly and Atlanta. Their losing streak is at 5. The Giants have today off, but can still gain a half game if the DBacks fall to the Nats. That game is currently heading into the Top of the 5th, with the Nationals leading 4-0 on a Jayson Werth 3-run HR. Tuesday, the Giants kick off a 2 game series against San Diego. Matt Cain duels Mat Latos in the 1st game. Lincecum will face Tim Stauffer on Wednseday.
Dbacks leave bases loaded in the Top of the 6th. Goldschmidt grounds into a FC. Nats 4, DBacks 0.
AZ Catcher Henry Blanco hit a solo HR to lead off the DBacks 7th. Nats 4, DBacks 1. Top 7.
Nats 4, DBacks 1. Bottom 8.
2 outs, top 9, AZ Catcher Henry Blanco at the plate. Nats 4, DBacks 1.
Blanco k's looking. DBacks LOSE! Giants now 1 GB of 1st place.
6 games left with the Dbacks. They are the only team we play the rest of the way with a winning record. But first SD and Lamos
DBacks trade Kelly Johnson to Toronto for 2B Aaron Hill and Utility man John McDonald.

kind of a surprising trade if you ask me. Hill is 2 seasons removed from his best year in the Big Leagues. Kelly Johnson has always had the power numbers, but his average in 2011 is .209. John McDonald can obviously help fill the void at SS left by Stephen Drew's injury. I'm just surprised that Arizona management would make such a move this late into a pennant race with the possibility of disrupting team chemistry. Kelly Johnson was a great teammate and great clubhouse presence, but thats not a knock on the personalities of Hill and McDonald. Both play the game very hard and are big time effort guys. It remains to be seen what they will provide to a team who has lost 6 in a row and is in the heart of a division race. Some guys shine in impact situations, and some dont.

Thoughts?
dbacks leave 2 risp in the top of the 4th. DBacks 0 Nats 0. Bottom 4
