The resurgent Giants offense came back down to reality in Sunday’s series finale against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. After combining to score 17 runs in the first two games, both wins, of the series on Friday and Saturday, respectively, San Francisco’s bats went quiet again with a chance to secure its first series sweep of the 2026 MLB season. Veteran left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray (L, 6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, BB, 7 K, 92 pitches) got the starting nod for the Giants, and pitched quite well for four innings before running into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. With no outs and Nationals speedster Nasim Nuñez at second, catcher Keibert Ruiz doubled home the game’s first run before Curtis Mead extended Washington’s lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run two batters later.
