SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants do ceremonies for their former stars better than anyone. They also have learned over the years that it’s impossible to figure out how to perfectly time these days.When they honored Brandon Belt on Saturday afternoon, the speeches went just long enough that The Captain and his family weren’t able to get off the field until four minutes before the scheduled first pitch. That led to some chaos, particularly around the home dugout. As players got loose, they had to find their way around a fishing boat that was attached to a truck parked in front of the dugout’s steps.
