With their groundbreaking trade of catcher Patrick Bailey on Saturday, the Giants gained another pick for the 2026 MLB Draft. Now loaded with two early draft picks at No. 4 and No. 29, their draft strategy may take a new form, Baseball America’s Carlos Corrazo writes. With the No. 4 overall pick, Corrazo predicts the Giants to select another position player – shortstop Jacob Lombard from Gulliver Prep High School in Miami. “For this first-round pick, I’ve heard the Giants connected to bats,” Corrazo writes. “If [Vahn] Lackey falls, he could be the pick. If not, Lombard and fellow high school toolshed Eric Booth Jr. feel like the favorites, probably in that order.” The Giants are loaded with infield prospects, especially at the shortstop position. But a draft strategy of drafting the best available talent seems to be consistent with the team.
