SAN FRANCISCO — After 14 consecutive games without a stolen base, the Giants finally swiped a bag on Wednesday. They even stole a second one for just the second time this season.But baserunning still cost them in a big way. The Giants ran themselves out of a potential game-tying rally in the bottom of the eighth and fell 3-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks, getting swept by the NL West rival for the second time in two weeks. The Giants are now 12 games under .500 for the first time since 2019. A dropped fly ball in the sun gave the Giants a chance to tie the game in the eighth. Willy Adames cruised into second on the mistake, and Luis Arraez followed with a flare to left-center that was nearly caught. Adames froze to see if the ball would drop, but third base coach Hector Borg sent him anyway. With the team’s best hitter (Casey Schmitt) on deck, Adames easily was thrown out at the plate.
