The Giants have lost another reliever to the injured list — this time, Matt Gage. San Francisco placed the left-hander on the 15-day IL on Wednesday afternoon, retroactive to June 2. Gage pitched one inning in the Giants’ rough 16-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout. In a corresponding move, the Giants recalled right-hander Dylan Smith from Triple-A Sacramento. Smith, whom San Francisco acquired via trade with the Detroit Tigers in March, was called up previously in May and made one appearance before being sent back down.In that May 10 game, a walk-off 7-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Smith pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked one.Gage this season has compiled a 4-1 record with 2.63 ERA over 24 innings in 29 appearances, with 19 strikeouts and 13 walks. The Giants also recently lost reliever Joel Peguero to the 60-day IL with a hamstring strain after he sustained the injury in their blowout win over the Colorado Rockies this past Sunday.Download and follow the Giants Talk Podcast
