SAN FRANCISCO — The best win of the season was followed by, well, a very normal 2026 Giants game. Any momentum from Bryce Eldridge’s walk-off slam on Wednesday apparently got buried on the off day, as the Giants managed just four hits in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Three of the hits came from Eldridge, who homered in the ninth inning for the third straight game, finally getting the Giants on the board. The game was scoreless until the fourth, when Seiya Suzuki drove an RBI double to left-center and then scored on a sacrifice fly. Landen Roupp left a tight spot for Erik Miller in the fifth, and a few hours after manager Tony Vitello talked about how better days were ahead for the bullpen, Miller immediately made a mistake. The lefty hung a slider to Michael Busch, and it was crushed into McCovey Cove for a three-run shot that gave the Cubs a five-run lead.
