With how terribly the series began, the Giants (37-52) had an opportunity to salvage the weekend in Denver.

Spoiler alert: They did not.

After the Rockies’ 15-3 demolishing of San Francisco on Friday, the Giants bounced back with a 6-4 win over Denver on Saturday, with a chance to take the series with a win in Sunday’s finale at Coors Field.

The Giants sent right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle (ND, 4 1/3 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) to the mound against Rockies (37-54) righty Tanner Gordon (ND, 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 7 K), and neither pitcher was on their A-Game.

Colorado struck first with a run on Hunter Goodman’s RBI ground out in the bottom of the first inning before before Mahle’s wild pick-off attempt to first base three batters later scored TJ Rumfield from third base to extend the Rockies’ lead to 2-0.

San Francisco responded with a two-run home run to right field off the bat of Drew Gilbert in the top of the second. Gilbert ties it with one swing pic.twitter.com/sYr15Xe5Ga
