The Giants officially reached a new rock bottom. Yes, that apparently still is possible. Not only is San Francisco a 2026 MLB season-high 16 games under .500 after its 10-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, but it nearly was no-hit for the first time in Oracle Park’s history.
Blue Jays starting pitcher Dylan Cease almost completed the historic achievement, which would have been the second of his career, with a near-flawless line of 8 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 11 K.
Cease took his no-hit bid into the bottom of the ninth inning, where Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos singled to center field to lead off the frame and end Cease’s attempt at history after 118 pitches.
Giants ace Logan Webb (L, 7 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) got the nod and surrendered five earned runs in the top of the first inning before pitching beautifully over his final six frames on Wednesday.
However, San Francisco’s bats were ice-cold the entire game, to put it lightly, nearly resulting in some unfortunate history at Oracle Park.
