SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants hit rock bottom on Wednesday, and just about everyone who matters in the organization was around to see it in person. Most of the front office has spent this week in meeting rooms at Oracle Park, preparing tirelessly for an important draft, one that will go a long way toward determining if there are more seasons like this in the future. The Giants pick fourth on Saturday, and regardless of which name they call it will be an exciting moment in a season lacking them.
After that, well, it’s back to reality.
Trade talks have been put on hold throughout the industry because 29 other teams are also deep into draft prep, but that will change on Monday. Some executives might take a bit of a breather during the All-Star break, but the expectation is that the calls and texts will pick back up as soon as the draft is over.
For the Giants, the pace has already changed since Buster Posey’s first deadline. The 2025 Giants didn’t become sellers until the final days of July. The 2026 Giants currently sit 16 games under .500, and it has been clear for weeks that another sale is coming.
