SAN FRANCISCO — With their first-round pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the Giants took a player who grew up watching the organization. In the third round, they picked a player who has much closer ties.Peyton Bonds, the nephew of Barry, was selected No. 90 overall Saturday. The Rutgers outfielder was the first position player taken after the Giants took three pitchers with their first three selections. The nephew of Barry Bonds posted the fifth-highest 90th percentile EV on day one of the MLB Draft Combine, at 110.6 mph.

Naturally, he is known for having plus raw power and good speed. Bonds had a .952 OPS as a junior, with six homers and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. The physical tools haven’t fully translated to games, in large part because he has had a high groundball rate.
