BOX SCORESAN FRANCISCO — The Giants were on the right side of a chaotic game this time around after a deflating loss Friday night, defeating the Colorado Rockies by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Oracle Park.
Manager Tony Vitello was tossed from the game in the third inning after a bizarre sequence of events that gave the Rockies an early 1-0 lead following Tyler Mahle’s balk.
The delayed balk call reset the count in Colorado left fielder Mickey Moniak’s at-bat, so what originally was a Moniak strikeout turned into a Moniak single.
But the Giants (40-55) didn’t let it faze them, and for the Rockies (39-58), that was the only run they scored Saturday.
San Francisco rookie catcher Jesus Rodriguez tied the game with an RBI double. But it was none other than Casey Schmitt who played hero for the Giants.
Schmitt’s three-run homer broke the 1-1 tie and lifted the Giants to an eventual 4-2 victory.
