SAN FRANCISCO – After initially saying he would not pitch in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game, Giants ace Logan Webb said he’s now open to taking part in the Midsummer Classic, if needed.The three-time All-Star spoke with reporters at Oracle Park on Sunday following the Giants’ 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies and sounded optimistic about playing in Philadelphia.
“I don’t know, I might be pitching,” Webb said, adding that it likely will come down to a game-time decision. “It’s like the last guy available, maybe.”
The 29-year-old Rocklin native suffered a right knee injury during the World Baseball Classic, which sidelined Webb for a few weeks in May.
Webb bounced back in June, earning National League Pitcher of the Month after recording a 0.71 ERA in 38 innings pitched. But he has allowed 12 earned runs in 10 July innings.
Webb also has thrown more than 200 innings in each of the previous three seasons, which is a lot of wear and tear on a pitcher the Giants need to remain healthy for the remainder of the season.
