SEATTLE — It has been a joy to watch Luis Arraez on a daily basis, but in the Giants’ dugout, a lot of time also is spent cringing. Arraez’s old-school style leads to just about every at-bat ending with a ball being put in play, but that approach generates plenty of foul balls, too. One of the latest left him banged up on Friday, and during Saturday’s game, Arraez had to limp back to the dugout after a grounder to short in extra innings. He already has missed a couple games this season with a similar issue.
And yet, there he was on Sunday morning, taking his usual grounders with Ron Washington and leading off the game for the Giants. There was no thought to giving him a breather, although the staff certainly will watch him closely for the rest of this month.
The next time the Giants take the field — Monday in Kansas City — they’ll be exactly two weeks from the MLB trade deadline. It’s a reality that hangs over everything they do, and that didn’t change over the weekend.
The Giants had a chance to find a bit of momentum, and they had a real opportunity to win all three games in Seattle....
