As the Aug. 3 trade deadline rapidly approaches, the Giants are expected to be one of the biggest sellers in Major League Baseball.With a first-year manager in Tony Vitello at the helm, San Francisco has posted a 42-57 record and is in serious need of revamping its pitching staff. As they sit 9.5 games out of a wild-card spot, it’s becoming glaringly obvious the Giants might need to part with some top players to bolster the farm system and roster for years to come.
In the eyes of the former Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals general manager, Jim Bowden, All-Star second baseman Luis Arraez needs to be one of the players they trade. In a piece for The Athletic, Bowden suggested the Giants trade Arraez to the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Dalton Pence and infielder Yolfran Castillo.
“Pence, 23, has reached Double A and has put up impressive numbers at every level he’s pitched at,” Bowden wrote. “He misses bats and knows how to pitch. He was the Rangers’ 2024 11th-round pick out of North Carolina.”
