SAN FRANCISCO — You have to go back to 1956 to find the last time the Giants went 105 games into a season without getting a single three-game sweep. The latest effort came with some late heartbreak.
The Giants lost to the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 on Sunday at Oracle park, falling to 0-5 when trying to get a three-game sweep. They rallied in the ninth, but Heliot Ramos went down looking to end the game.
The Giants trailed by three heading into the ninth, but got two runners on for the top of the order. With two outs, Luis Arraez hit a double off the right field wall, bringing the ballpark to life and getting the Giants within a run. Ramos was due up next and he went down looking on a pitch that was down and in. He tried to challenge it — and the pitch was not a strike — but the Giants were out of ABS reviews.
The first day game of the weekend was a breeze, but the Giants fell behind right away on Sunday. Mike Trout’s double in the first helped them take a 1-0 lead, and a couple of homers to dead center gave them a four-run lead through four innings. Trout finished with four hits for the first time since 2021.
