SAN FRANCISCO — The 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night was one of the cleanest of the 2026 MLB season for the Giants. They gave up just three hits, getting a strong start from Tyler Mahle and some of their best work from the bullpen. The defense made some big plays, and they stole a season-high three bases. They also got a clutch homer from a young outfielder. But Tony Vitello couldn’t smile much when he sat down behind the podium. Vitello lost one of his best players early in the game, and the Giants are unsure when they’ll get him back.
Casey Schmitt made an aggressive turn around first in the second inning and injured his left knee as he put the brakes on. The breakout star of this season, Schmitt limped off the field and needed help getting down the dugout steps.
