SAN DIEGO — Once the MLB trade deadline passes, some of the attention will turn to minor tasks. Like, can the Giants get a sweep? And can they ever win four in a row?
Neither will happen this weekend in San Diego. After a solid win in the series opener on Thursday, they came back with a lifeless performance on Friday, managing just two hits in a 7-0 loss to the Padres.
The clunker capped a day the organization would rather forget. Casey Schmitt had surgery on his meniscus, and later in the day the Giants announced they have suspended payments to Harrison Bader, who has additional injuries after a scooter crash last weekend. Casey Schmitt had surgery today, which the Giants described as a debridement of his lateral meniscus. He’ll start rehab tomorrow with a rehab time of 6-8 weeks. That puts him up against the end of the season, but regardless he’ll have a normal offseason and be 100% for 2027.
