SAN DIEGO — The trips to Petco Park are always particularly meaningful to Casey Schmitt, who grew up nearby and starred at San Diego State before getting drafted by the Giants. Schmitt wasn’t able to make this one, but he at least seemed to get good news Friday. The Giants didn’t know the full extent of his left knee injury until Schmitt underwent surgery on Friday morning, but it ultimately ended up being a debridement of his lateral meniscus, a procedure that comes with six to eight weeks of rehab. Given some of the alternatives when Schmitt first suffered a non-contact injury to his knee on Monday, this was good news.
“Everything went about as well as it could,” manager Tony Vitello said Friday. Casey Schmitt had surgery today, which the Giants described as a debridement of his lateral meniscus. He’ll start rehab tomorrow with a rehab time of 6-8 weeks. That puts him up against the end of the season, but regardless he’ll have a normal offseason and be 100% for 2027.
