SAN DIEGO — When he was introduced last October, Tony Vitello made it clear at the press conference that he tries to avoid social media. But the Giants manager is generally aware of what’s being said about his team, and the latest thing to stir up some in the fan base clearly struck a nerve.During Friday night’s Apple TV broadcast, the crew talked about how shortstop Willy Adames has not been buying into Ron Washington’s pregame work as much as others. Before Saturday’s game, Vitello said that didn’t come from him and it’s not true. He said he has no issues with Adames’ effort or preparation defensively.
“It’s bulls–t, is what it is,” Vitello said of the story.
Vitello brought his concerns up after giving his regular injury and roster updates and spoke at length about not just Adames, but a team that has underperformed. He said “the effort and attitude” are there, even if the record is near the bottom of the league.
