BOX SCORESAN DIEGO — The Giants’ last game before the MLB trade deadline didn’t include any hugs, but it did fit right in with the rest of the season. They lost.
Landen Roupp dug an early hole, but the Giants hung around and got within a run when Rafael Devers went the opposite way in the eighth inning. Jung Hoo Lee followed with a double and got to third on a throwing error, but Willy Adames struck out.
The Giants got the tying run on with two outs in the ninth, but Luis Arraez flew out to left. As the San Diego Padres celebrated a 5-4 win, Arraez jogged slowly back to the dugout in what may have been his final act as a Giant.
