ARLINGTON — When the Giants traded Mike Yastrzemski before last year’s deadline, Logan Webb got a new title. He was already the ace, the face of the franchise and a clubhouse leader, but until the Yastrzemski trade, he was not officially the longest-tenured Giant. That deal, plus the Tyler Rogers one, ensured that it wasn’t even close, and on Monday, Webb continued to distance himself from the pack.
The trade of Heliot Ramos to the New York Yankees left Casey Schmitt as the longest-tenured position player, and the only hitter on the roster who arrived before the first game in 2024. Schmitt, Keaton Winn and Tristan Beck all made their debuts in 2023, four years after Webb first broke through.
There’s certainly something to be said for longevity, especially when you’re someone of Webb’s stature. But on days like Monday, it can also be a lonely feeling.
