Buster Posey laughs off Giants’ modern-day Bonds and Kent tandem in organization

Buster Posey couldn’t help but laugh at the irony.Discussing the Giants’ MLB trade deadline additions on KNBR’s “Murph and Markus,” Posey revealed that Jeff Kent himself had already clocked the punchline before anyone else did.

“It’s funny — with Bonds and Kent now, I was talking to Jeff the other day, and he was like, ‘Hey, you’re trying to take heat off yourself by having Kent and Bonds back in the organization,’” Posey said. “I was laughing with him. But he’s another really, really nice player that we’re excited about.”

The organization now employs Peyton Bonds, nephew of Barry Bonds, and Kaeden Kent, son of Jeff Kent — two prospects whose surnames alone reconstruct one of the most feared, and most complicated, duos in Giants history.

The original Bonds and Kent combined for 479 home runs as teammates from 1997 to 2002, powering the Giants to two NL West titles and a World Series appearance. They were never close off the field.
