Deciding to retire was not easy for Mike Krukow, and there was one conversation in particular that might have been the most difficult part of the process.The longtime Giants broadcaster announced on Thursday his plan to retire after the 2026 MLB season, but before he went public with his decision, he needed to have a difficult conversation with his partner and fellow San Francisco broadcaster Duane Kuiper.
“Horrible. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever had to do — is walk away from him. In my life,” Krukow told KNBR 680’s “Murph & Markus” on Monday when asked what it was like to break the news to Kuiper. “He looked at me, and he goes, ‘No, you’re not.’ He was quiet. Then we walked out of the lunchroom together. He put his arm on my shoulders, and we just quietly walked back to the booth. Went back and did our job.”
