SAN FRANCISCO — For a second straight night, the Giants controlled most of their game against the Houston Astros. This time, they held on.
Carson Whisenhunt had to work hard early, but ended up having one of his best nights in the big leagues, and he was rewarded for it. The Giants got to four runs — a magic number for manager Tony Vitello — and the bullpen cruised through the late innings to clinch a 4-1 win.
The Astros took an early lead, but Drew Gilbert — who is having a huge series against his former team — tied it up and Drew Cavanaugh put the Giants on top with his own RBI single. Drew Gilbert ties it up pic.twitter.com/gWupiKbwAJ

A night after they blew two leads and gave up five runs late in the game, any insurance was appreciated, but this night was much easier for the ‘pen.
