The Giants’ 2026 MLB season continues to go from bad to worse, now with an injury to one of their core players.Willy Adames has been dealing with a back injury for several weeks now, and Tony Vitello shared his approach to the situation on “The Murph and Markus Show” on Thursday.
“He’s getting treatment this morning,” Vitello said. “Kind of assessing where it’s at today.”
Adames had a play at shortstop on Wednesday where you could clearly see something was wrong. Off the bat, it looked to be a tailor-made double play, but Adames wasn’t able to get any juice behind his throw the second.
“It’s something that’s kind of been lingering,” Vitello admitted. “He wants to be the Cal Ripken type out on the field, but clearly it locked up there.”
The 30-year-old prides himself on being available every day for the team. In each of his last two seasons, he hasn’t missed more than two games. He played 161 in 2024 with the Milwaukee Brewers and 160 in 2025 with San Francisco.
