SAN FRANCISCO — This has been a difficult month for Logan Webb, who watched close friend Robbie Ray and others get traded, co-leaders Matt Chapman and Willy Adames go down with injuries and the clubhouse get filled with rookies who are trying to prove that they can join Webb in a future that hopefully will be better than 2026. But in the top of the second inning, Webb couldn’t hide his smile. A strikeout of Zac Veen was the 1,100th of Webb’s career, and for some reason, the Giants decided to celebrate that random number. A graphic was shown on the scoreboard and fans cheered as Connor Norby dug into the batter’s box.
Webb was a cap-tip away from having his own Jean Segura moment. Instead he just covered his mouth with his glove and stifled his grin.
“I was a little confused by that, to be honest,” he said later, smiling. “I saw it on the board, and I was like, ‘No way they’re going to do this right now.’ There was some clapping, and I think it messed up Norby a little bit.
