The Giants on Thursday were trying to do something they have not done in over two months.
It is not anything all that difficult, for an average MLB team, but for the Giants, road series wins have been hard to come by for most of the 2026 season.
San Francisco’s last road series win was June 16-17 against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, a two-game series victory, in the form of a double header on June 17, with the first game of the series postponed to the next day due to weather and the third game rescheduled for Aug. 31.
The Giants (52-75) followed an ugly 8-1 loss to the Guardians (62-66) on Tuesday at Progressive Field with a 1-0 win over Cleveland on Wednesday, with Thursday’s rubber match presenting San Francisco with another opportunity to claim an elusive road series victory.
One that it would waste.
The struggling Landen Roupp (L, 5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K), who admittedly has not felt right mechanically in recent starts, toed the rubber on Thursday against Cleveland right-handed ace Gavin Williams (W, 5 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 11 K).
