BOSTON — Rafael Devers signed some autographs after doing his pregame defensive work on Friday afternoon and then sat down in the dugout and stared out at about 20 reporters and photographers. For a little over nine minutes, Devers answered questions about his return to Boston, and for all but one he used Giants broadcaster Erwin Higueras as an interpreter.But when Devers was asked if he had any regrets or would change anything about the way it all ended with the Red Sox, he quickly answered without turning to Higueros.
“No,” he said in English.
There might come a day when all sides have regrets about the nature of the divorce, although Devers certainly seems like the type who doesn’t often look backwards in life. After the first inning, he was provided a reminder of how this all could have gone differently, and the grumbling Red Sox fans were, too.
