The Giants will be without their star rookie for at least the next three games. San Francisco will place first baseman Bryce Eldridge on the bereavement list prior to Monday’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds at Oracle Park, the San Francisco Chronicle’s Shayna Rubin reported Monday.
Rubin reports that Eldridge is expected to miss the Giants’ three-game series against Cincinnati while he travels to Virginia to attend his grandfather’s funeral.
In 87 games this season, Eldridge is batting .252/.346/.435 with 14 home runs, 35 RBI and a 121 OPS+ in 356 plate appearances.
San Francisco, after shortstop Willy Adames and outfielder Victor Bericoto sustained injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, now could be without a few key players for the beginning of its seven-game homestand against Cincinnati and the Arizona Diamondbacks this week.
