SAN FRANCISCO — The already-depleted Giants placed three players on the injured list and were without their standout rookie entering Monday’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds.
Yet somehow, with the nearly perfect Chase Burns on the mound for the Reds, San Francisco’s offense came alive early to snap a four-game skid and secure a needed 5-0 victory Monday at Oracle Park.

Whisenhunt tossed 2 1/5 innings, allowing two hits and zero earned runs, with three strikeouts and one walk.
The bullpen came through for San Francisco and kept Cincinnati’s offense, which had scored 14 runs in its previous two games, scoreless.
