Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Brady Singer held onto a grudge for more than four months and tried to exact revenge early in the Giants’ 3-1 win on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.Singer’s first pitch on Tuesday sailed behind Giants center fielder Drew Gilbert‘s legs. The very next pitch drilled San Francisco’s leadoff hitter in the leg.
Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow was puzzled by the sequence, which could have been the continuation of a situation from April 16 when former San Francisco reliever Erik Miller barked at Reds rookie Sal Stewart after striking out the infielder to end the game at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
“That was really odd because what happened in Cincinnati was a big nothing,” Krukow said. “It was a couple guys woofing. And nobody was involved. I have no idea what that guy was thinking about. I really don’t. He wasn’t involved in the [previous] game. Drew Gilbert wasn’t doing anything disrespectful in Cincinnati, so I guess for him to single out [Gilbert] in Game 2, I don’t understand it.
