If baseball games only lasted eight innings, the Giants’ bullpen would be among the best in MLB. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case.On Thursday, general manager Zack Minasian joined “The Murph and Markus Show” on KNBR and gave an interesting perspective on the recent struggles from San Francisco’s relievers.
“Something I was looking at the other day,” Minasian stated, “the ninth inning obviously has been a huge issue. Our bullpen ERA, when you take out the ninth inning — I think the last time I looked was a couple of days ago — sixth in baseball.”
Statistically, the Giants haven’t been as bad as it might seem. San Francisco sits 19th in the league with a 4.23 bullpen ERA. What stands out is the gut-wrenching losses that have come at the end of games, most recently in Wednesday afternoon’s 10-9 loss against the Cincinnati Reds.
