What we learned as Landen Roupp, Drew Gilbert fuel Giants’ win over D-backs

SAN FRANCISCO — There is no way, absolutely none, than it could get worse than Wednesday.

… Right?

The 10-9 series-finale loss to the Cincinnati Reds, in which the Giants’ bullpen blew a six-run, ninth-inning lead to spoil what would have been San Francisco’s first three-game series sweep of the 2026 MLB season, was a new, and perhaps previously inconceivable, rock bottom.

So it only had to be up from there.

San Francisco sent right-handed pitcher Landen Roupp (W, 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 3K) to the mound for Thursday’s three-game series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks and righty Jose Cabrera (ND, 4 1/3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K).

And just one day after the Giants’ bullpen allowed seven runs in the ninth, that same bullpen did not surrender a single run in four innings of relief. Hilarious sport. Hilarious team.
