SAN FRANCISCO — Back in March, when they were the aces of Team USA, Logan Webb and Paul Skenes never could have imagined a night like this.
Webb and Skenes combined to give up 14 runs and 17 hits on Tuesday night, and that somehow wasn’t even the strangest aspect of a wild game at PNC Park.
The Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates combined for 35 hits, but the game ended on an error. The Pirates won 13-12 in the ninth when Osleivis Basabe threw away a ball that would have sent the game to extras. The big blow was a three-run homer from Rafael Devers, but the lead wouldn’t last long.
