For the first time in his Giants career - something youwouldn't wish on anyone - Barry Zito is a heroic figure. There's no otherway to describe it; this is exactly what he has become. He was out there Thursday night in a huge game for the Giants , who needed that series splitwith San Diego and hoped to save the bullpen after the previousnight's 14-inning endurance test. The fact that Zito came throughso handsomely - eight innings, four hits, one run - should nolonger be surprising. This is how he has responded since hisdemotion from the postseason roster last fall.
