Flamboyance has become a lost art in the game of baseball. Oncevital to the scene, and associated with the greats, it now standsfor petulance and self-obsession. We find it an especiallyinteresting topic this weekend, with the Brewers in town, for a mannamed Nyjer Morgan is trying to resurrect the art all byhimself. I'm not sure the Giants have a shred of respect forMorgan. I don't think they'd want him anywhere near the roster. Butthe Brewers are a legitimate contender in the National League'sCentral Division, almost certain to be factors to the end, andMorgan will be their starting center fielder most of the time. Andso, the question: Can you win a pennant in today's game with anexcess of flamboyance?
