It's not often that a baseball season is summed up in a singleplay, but it happened in Arizona on Friday night in the game thatessentially sent the Giants home for the winter. There simply was no margin for error for the Giants' pitching staff - not in thisgame, not in this entire season. Sergio Romo was the victim this time, anAll-Star-caliber reliever delivering a breaking pitch that caughttoo much of the plate in the bottom of the eighth. Paul Goldschmidt , a Diamondbacks rookie and asymbol of this team's emergence from oblivion, lined the two-runtriple that clinched the National League West title.
