Relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt said the Giants are in a "betterspot" than a year ago at this time, and it's a common stancebecause on the surface it's true. They're one game out of firstplace. Last Aug. 23, they woke up six games back, a couple of daysfrom being 6 1/2 back. Those Giants, by comparison, were loaded. And healthy.
