Hoping to ignite their punchless offense, the Giants on Monday acquired outfielder Melky Cabrera from the Kansas City Royals for left-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez and a minor-leaguer.The 27-year-old Cabrera had a career year with a .305 average, 18 home runs and 87 runs batted in while stealing 20 bases last season for the Royals. He is expected to play center field since Giants prospect Gary Brown probably is not quite ready for the majors.Sanchez, 28, was hampered by injuries for much of last season and posted a 4-7 record with a 4.26 earned run average in 17 games. In six seasons with the Giants, Sanchez was 38-46 with a 4.26 ERA.Also going to the Royals is left-hander Ryan Verdugo, who was 8-6 with a 4.35 ERA last season for double-A Richmond.
