MEDICAL WATCH:--OF Melky Cabrera (right hamstring tightness) left the June 7 game and was out of the lineup June 8-10. The Giants hope he can return June 12.--3B Pablo Sandoval (broken hamate bone in left hand) went on the 15-day disabled list May 3. He underwent surgery May 4. He had begun swinging left-handed as of May 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class A San Jose on June 2, and he began hitting right-handed June 4. He was activated after the game on June 8.--2B Freddy Sanchez (right shoulder surgery in August 2011) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26. He was still struggling with his throwing in mid-April. He began a rehab assignment with Class A San Jose on April 23, but he was shut down a few days later because of shoulder soreness. He played third base in extended spring training May 8-9. Across-the-body throws from second have troubled Sanchez, and the more direct throws from third (with his momentum directed toward first base) might be easier. He continues to be sidelined despite two epidural injections in his lower back, and there is no timetable for his return.
