Masanori Murakami made his debut for the Giants on Sept. 1, 1964, becoming the first Japanese pitcher in big league history. It would, however, be another 30 years before Hideo Nomo of the Dodgers would become the second Japanese player in the big leagues.
A half-century later, Murakami’s legacy remains strong
