A 27-year-old rookie with the San Francisco Giants, slugger Chris Dominguez enjoyed his first career hit — a towering home run at Petco Park — in his first major league start Sunday afternoon. The Giants fell to the San Diego Padres 5-2, further complicating their playoff prospects, but nobody could wipe the smile from Dominguez's face after he spent six seasons in the minors. A souvenir of the occasion would have been nice, but one is not always guaranteed. In his case, Dominguez managed to retrieve the ball, but not before the 8-year-old girl who had possession of it wrote a congratulatory note on it for the ballplayer.
