The San Francisco Giants are in the playoffs and know for sure they'll be playing in Wednesday's National League wild-card game against either the Pittsburgh Pirates or St. Louis Cardinals. That gives them very little incentive to force the issue this weekend against San Diego, and Saturday's lineup indicates they're learning toward rest over results. Among the notables missing from San Francisco's lineup is MVP candidate Buster Posey, who continues dealing with back soreness. Also out will be outfielder Hunter Pence, which means his MLB best 331 consecutive games started streak is officially over. Pence had started every one of San Francisco's games played dating back to Sept. 23, 2012, also against San Diego. He entered that game as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning drawing a walk. This season, Pence had played in all but 11 innings during San Francisco's first 160 games, but he definitely sounded ready for a breather on Saturday. Pence said Bam Bam asked him if streak was important to him. Pence replied winning a World Series was important to him. So he rests. — Andrew Baggarly (@CSNBaggs) September 27, 2014 Managers love honesty, and you won't find many more...
