ST. LOUIS — Tim Lincecum has not pitched in the 2014 playoffs so far for the San Francisco Giants. The way his season has gone, and the way the Giants want to construct their starting rotation and bullpen, he might not pitch. He's come a long way, the wrong way, since being the National League Cy Young winner in 2008 and 2009, and one who helped the Giants win a World Series in 2010. Even two years ago, during an earlier crisis in his career when the Giants removed him from the starting rotation, manager Bruce Bochy used Lincecum as a reliever during the playoffs. Lincecum did quite well in relief, allowing one earned run in 13 innings combined, and posting a 17-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio among three rounds of playoffs. Lincecum actually was a big reason the Giants won again. This season, the Giants find themselves in a similar position with Lincecum, who posted a 4.74 ERA in 26 starts, with the lowest strikeout rate of his career.
