Delirious with World Series joy, half-blind without his glasses and apparently still doped-up from an emergency trip to the dentist, Jake Peavy of the San Francisco Giants nearly reduced Travis Ishikawa's walk-off home run into a mere double by blocking him from touching home plate after Ishikawa hit a ball over the fence to end the National League Championship Series in Game 5 on Thursday night. Immediately after Ishikawa connected against Michael Wacha of the St. Louis Cardinals, sending a three-run homer into the right-field seats at AT&T Park to set off a pennant-clinching party, the Giants spilled onto the field, with most of them setting up around home plate in order to do some slam-dancing with the hero of the moment. Some of the Giants ran to greet Ishikawa between second and third on his way home, and one aggressor in particular was Peavy. The best part is the look on Ishikawa's face, and that he shouts at Peavy, who only wanted a hug — and mistakenly thought the ball hadn't gone over the fence.
