The Boston Red Sox, trying to revamp their batting line-up, have agreed deals with Major League Baseball free agent sluggers Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval, according to media reports Monday. Agreements by the 2013 World Series winners would see Ramirez ink a five-year deal worth $90 million and Sandoval leave the World Series champion San Francisco Giants for a five-year deal worth nearly $100 million, TV channels reported. For Ramirez, it would mark a return to the club that signed him at 16 as a shortstop from the Dominican Republic, although he was sent to Florida in 2005 after playing only twice for Boston. Ramirez, a career .300 batter, was named the National League's top newcomer in 2006 and made three All-Star Games in more than six seasons with the Marlins before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.
