The San Francisco Giants did not exactly have a strong spring. Once the regular season started, though, the defending World Series champions looked the part. Bumgarner pitched seven steady innings and the Giants opened defense of their third title in five years with a 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night. ''It just goes to show you, you can throw spring training stats out,'' Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.
